There are no resorts or multi unit cottage rentals at this east end of Palmerston Lake resulting in minimal lake activity and area traffic. With this perfect country setting, city life becomes a distant memory. A highly sought after destination is this Land O'Lakes area of Eastern Ontario near the village of Ompah Ontario. The Maples cottage is a non smoking/no pets WINTERIZED cottage,available for year round enjoyment and equipped with electric heat and a glass front woodstove including firewood creating a delicious warmth and comforting flame viewing. It is located away from the lake's edge,no chance for young ones to wander off to the water.The lake is accessible via an easy downhill trail through mature trees on the property plus a very sturdy staircase with handrail. This location is perfect for those who want absolute privacy, yet want lake frontage of their own to enjoy.(trail and stairwell to lake may not be cleared in the winter due to heavy snow) With drive to the door access for quick and easy unpacking,it is also ideal for weekend Winter enthusiasts (snowmobiles and ATV's) as it is only 5 minutes to groomed OFSC trails and EOTA ATV trails accessing many other lakes and trails in the area. Your hosts reside year round within walking distance on a separate property and are usually available for assistance.

With carpet and vinyl flooring throughout for easy upkeep, this bright 1076 sq.ft. cottage is well maintained and stocked with all the comforts of home. A family of six will be very comfortable as the living area is very spacious containing quality furnishings. A four piece bathroom and separate laundry area provide families with young children the opportunity to stay for an extended period of time. The two bedrooms which sleep 4 comfortably are set to the back of the cottage, away from any family noise in the evenings. The large kitchen/diningroom area is fully equipped with all cooking conveniences. Potable well water is delicious for drinking. The livingroom furnishings include 2 easy chairs, 3 lamps and end tables, a stocked bookcase with games, cards and books, a double sofa bed sectional couch which sleeps 2 extra people and a second queen sized pull out couch. They are centered around a glass front woodstove which gives off an enticing warmth,renewing your spirit and warming your heart after an exhiliarating,long day out on the OFSC snowmobile/EOTA ATV trails during the Winter months. A 19" color flat screened T.V. with BELL SATELLITE service also has a DVD/Blu- Ray player. Movie rentals are available in Ompah. Please bring a phone card for all long distance calls as there is no cell phone service nor Internet available at the cottage. If Internet is important to your stay, you may utilize our home Wi-Fi outside our home by sitting on our stairwell at your leisure with your iphone or laptop. Public Internet can be purchased in Ompah at the General Store or Public Library during their hours. Some of our guests have commented that they appreciate being able to "unplug" from work and life.

With an interesting exterior mix of original old fashioned log and chinking and modern day vinyl siding, the Maples cottage boasts a large carpeted screened porch with table and 6 chairs which faces northwest and offers extra family play space on a rainy day. Relax in the evenings with a good book and listen to the call of the loons. Horseshoe pits which double as sandboxes provide family fun.A picnic table,complimentary use of a propane BBQ and 4 Muskoka chairs located on a sunny patio area accessible from the screened porch make for enjoyable outdoor meals. A short walk down a gentle trail through the trees and a sturdy stairwell with hand railing has you sitting on your own private dock with shed for storage of your personal waterfront needs(lakefront access during Winter months may be snow covered and the view of the lake is limited during the Summer months due to mature trees). Four patio chairs and small table remain at the dock. The fairly shallow swimming area to one side of the dock has a somewhat gradual slope and no weeds, the lake bottom is a mix of sand and smaller pebbles. Children will enjoy rock bass fishing from the end of the dock. Abundant docking space for your own boat is available. An intimate, sandy public beach is located directly across the lake (a 5 minute drive or short boat ride) offering toddlers walk-in access to the water. A 15.6 ft. canoe with paddles and pedalboat are included with each rental.

Many golf courses within a one hours drive, the lovely towns of Perth,Westport, Lanark village and Balderson have quaint shops and restaurants. The Double "S" Marina in Ompah(www.double-s.ca) offers convenience items, boat rentals, tackle, bait and licenses, movie rentals, chip wagon, gas, area information etc. Many services in the next village of Plevna include LCBO, grocery store with Wi- Fi, gas, propane, mini golf and a family restaurant, take-out meals and ice cream counter. Located in District 1 of the OFSC snowmobile trail system, we welcome all Winter enthusiasts who enjoy activities such as X-country skiing,snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ATV'ing on OFSC and EOTA trails, abundant ice fishing on many other small fishing lakes on crown land in the area such as Crotch, Mosque, Canonto, Granite, the Quinns, Summit, Mair. Located approx. one hour from Calabogie ski hills. The area Spring and Fall ATV Wilderness Adventure Tours/Poker Runs and Annual 2 day Bass Fishing Derby on Palmerston Lk with dinner to follow in early Summer are a great way to introduce newcomers to this lovely area. We enjoy being sponsors of these events and offer overnight accommodation to any participants.
